Gingerbread Bridge Competition

Our teams build gingerbread bridges, decorate them, and then enter a competition for design and load-bearing capability. This has beome a GMAH holiday tradition and our homeschool group plans to compete for the third time in 2024.

The Structural Engineers Association of Colorado organizes this event and has announced this year’s event will be held earlier – Friday, November 15 – at Colorado School of Mines.

How our teams have done in the past:

In 2023, close to 30 teams respresenting professional businesses and area high schools participated. We had two teams and our bridges placed higher than any of the other high school teams in the load testing division.  Our younger GMAH team – The Candyland Kids – was definitely the youngest team competing last year.

The Candyland Kids’ bridge held 173 pounds and placed 7th in load testing.

A Gouda Bridge (the GMAH older team’s entry) held 455 pounds and placed 4th in load testing.

A Gouda Bridge also placed 2nd in Architectural Design and received 2nd for the People’s Choice Award.
